Auckland Kiwi Movers are house movers Auckland households and can book by the hour: a truck, a crew of two and all the padding needed to move your whole home. Rates are published up front. A truck with two movers is charged at an a hourly rate plus a callout fee that depends on truck size, and the current figures are always on our hourly rates. The hourly rate and callout fee depend on truck size. There is a two-hour minimum including callout, and after the first hour we charge in 15-minute increments. Add a third mover for $40 an hour if you want a faster move. Check our current hourly rates for the exact figures. Times are typical, not guaranteed: travel, stairs and parking all move them.
Your House-Move Timeline: Four Weeks to Moving Day
Four weeks before
- Book your date and tell us about bedrooms, stairs, garage and shed contents.
- Walk the property and list what is in the garage, shed, loft and garden.
- Start using up freezer food.
Two weeks before
- Measure the widest items (sofa, wardrobe, dining table) against doorways and stair turns at both homes.
- Order packing materials and start on rooms you rarely use.
- Check how your washing machine and fridge need to be disconnected and prepared, so they are ready before moving day.
One week before
- Label every box by room and side of the house it goes to.
- Confirm key handover or possession time with your agent or landlord.
- Plan pets and children for moving day.
The night before
- Empty and defrost the fridge. Take beds apart only if you want to save crew time; otherwise we will.
- Keep valuables, documents, chargers and medication in your own car.
Moving day
- Clear the path from every door to the truck, and keep a parking spot free.
- Be there for the walkthrough before and after loading.

Polished furniture goes under blankets and fragile items get bubble wrap. Beds, tables and wardrobes are taken apart, with screws and bolts bagged and labelled. Trolleys and a tail lift handle the heavy items. At the new home, we place everything where you direct and put back together what we took apart.

How long does a 3-bedroom house move take?
Usually 4 to 6 hours. Travel distance, stairs and how far the truck can park from the door can affect it either way, and a 3-bedroom home with a full garage can run longer.
What size truck do I need for my house?
A 20 m³ truck suits a studio to small 2-bedroom, 30 m³ suits 2 to 3 bedrooms, and 40 m³ suits 3 to 5 bedrooms. Garage contents and large furniture can push you up a size, so tell us when you request the quote.
What should be ready before the crew arrives?
Boxes sealed and labelled, small items packed, the path to the truck clear and parking sorted. Beds can be left for us to dismantle, though having them done saves hours.
Will you take down beds and wardrobes?
Yes. We dismantle beds, tables and wardrobes, bag and label the hardware, and rebuild them at the new home, all included in the rate.
Which items should I tell you about when I get a quote?
Anything oversized or awkward, such as a piano, double-door fridge, spa pool or pool table. These may cost extra, and knowing early lets us plan the crew and truck. Mention garage and shed contents too.
How does the hourly charge work on moving day?
The callout fee and a two-hour minimum apply, and after the first hour time is charged in 15-minute increments. The total depends on the time taken, not a fixed amount, so tidy preparation lowers the bill.
What happens if my keys are late?
We can wait on site if the delay is short, unload once access is confirmed, or bridge the gap with storage. Give us a contact number for the handover person.
