What a Furniture Job Costs When It's Less Than a Whole House
We charge by the hour. Each truck comes with two movers:
- 20 m³ truck: $115–125/hr, callout $60–80
- 30 m³ truck: $120–130/hr, callout $80–90
- 40 m³ truck: $130–140/hr, callout $90
An extra mover costs $40/hr. The minimum charge is two hours, including the callout, which covers the truck, crew and travel to reach you. After the first hour, extra time is charged in 15-minute increments. Pianos, double-door fridges, spa pools and pool tables may cost extra.
Stairs, long carries, dismantling, distance and parking all affect the time. Mention them when you ask for a quote so the estimate stays close to the final bill.
Our Truck and Crew, or Doing It Yourself?
Doing it yourself means van hire, fuel, an insurance excess if something goes wrong, and the risk of a scratched floor or strained back. Our rate covers the truck, two movers, blankets, trolley, tail lift and, for local jobs, fuel.
Where Furniture Moves Go Wrong, and How We Prevent It
- What happens: The piece wedges halfway, and the frame or wall gets gouged.
- Why: Many doorways and stairwells in villas and older apartments are narrower than a modern three-seater.
- What we do: We check access before lifting, take off legs, doors or sections, then pad the piece and angle it through on sliders.
- What you can do: Measure door width, hallway width and the tightest turn, then send the numbers with your booking.
- What happens: Two friends get it halfway and have to set it down hard.
- Why: Hardwood and stone are dense, and the weight often sits unevenly.
- What we do: Two-person lifts with straps and a trolley, with legs or tops separated where possible.
- What you can do: Tell us the material and rough size so we bring the right gear. Don’t try it alone.
- What happens: Screws spin, cam locks fail, and the bed wobbles after rebuilding.
- Why: Particleboard loses grip each time a screw comes out.
- What we do: We move pieces assembled when they fit. If not, we dismantle gently, bag and label each set of hardware, and tape it to its piece.
- What you can do: Photograph the assembly before we arrive, and tell us what must stay in one piece.
- What happens: Rub marks or a chipped corner turn up at the new place.
- Why: Furniture shifts slightly at every corner and every brake.
- What we do: Polished pieces are covered with moving blankets, and glass and other fragile parts get bubble wrap. We load so nothing heavy presses on a fragile face.
- What you can do: Point out antiques and high-value pieces when you book.
- What happens: A piece that was fine across town rubs or cracks after hours on the road.
- Why: Longer trips mean more vibration and more corners, and on a shared load, more freight around it.
- What we do: We strap every piece to the truck, load heavy items first and low, and give you an honest delivery window based on the route.
- What you can do: Tell us about any existing damage or loose joints so we can note them and pad around them.
- What happens: Pieces get left in the garage or hallway, and you shift them again later.
- Why: Nobody planned where each piece goes in the new place.
- What we do: We place every piece in the room you choose and rebuild anything we took apart.
- What you can do: Label pieces with the room name, or send us a rough floor plan.

Do you move a single piece of furniture?
No, we don’t take single-item jobs. We move furniture by the room or by the load, always with two movers and a truck.
How is a short job priced with the two-hour minimum?
You pay the two-hour minimum, which includes the callout fee, even if the job takes less time. In our smallest truck, the hourly rate is $115–125. Extra pieces often fit inside that same time at no added cost.
Will you take apart and rebuild beds and flat-pack furniture?
Yes. Dismantling and rebuilding are included in the hourly rate. Mention them when you book so we bring the right tools and allow the time.
What happens if my furniture won’t fit through the doorway?
We first remove legs, doors or sections and angle the piece through on sliders. If it still won’t pass safely, we won’t force it. We’ll stop and talk through the options with you.
How do you protect polished timber and glass?
Polished furniture is covered with moving blankets, and glass, mirrors and other fragile parts get bubble wrap and extra care. We also load so nothing heavy presses on them.
How much does it cost to send a few pieces to another city?
Each long-distance job is quoted on its own, based on how much is moving and where it’s going. Fuel and road charges for long-distance moves sit outside the local hourly rate, so send us both addresses for an exact quote.
Do heavy items like pianos cost extra?
They can. Pianos, double-door fridges, spa pools and pool tables may need an extra charge, so mention them when you book and we’ll give you an exact quote.
